Oliver, 15, was three years old when he joined the local Suzuki group, SMART, and has been a student of Carol Laube since then. At age 10, he won Grand Prize in the Reno Philharmonic Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition, and performed as a soloist with the YSO at Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles in 2011. He won Grand Prize for the second time in 2015. Oliver enjoys playing chamber music and has participated in concerts, local events and fundraisers as a member of a string quartet with his friends and fellow YSO members and alumni Maya and Nate Dimitroff and Andrew Hervey. Over the past year Oliver has played with the Reno Chamber Orchestra and the Reno Philharmonic Youth Symphony Orchestra. In 2013 he performed Mozart’s violin concerto in G major with the Susanville Symphony Orchestra. Traveling with his parents frequently he has had the opportunity of living in other places for extended periods. In 2012 he studied with Dr. Joo-Mee Lee in Boston, and in summer 2013 with Ariane Vesper in Bochum, Germany. Over the past two summers, Oliver has been attending the Academy for Gifted Students at Freiburg Conservatory, Germany (Freiburger Akademie zur Begabtenförderung, Hochschule für Musik Freiburg) as a student of Prof. Simone Zgraggen.
Oliver is a student at the Davidson Academy of Nevada. Mathematics and science are among his favorite subjects. He won several awards at the regional science fair with projects focusing on renewable energy and solar power plants. In 2015 he received a fourth place award in the energy category at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Pittsburgh, PA.
When it snows Oliver takes advantage of the ski runs at Mt Rose and Squaw Valley. He also enjoys playing tennis, and runs along the Truckee river.
